GENERAL AFTERCARE:

DO NOT pick or sratch the new tattoo. You should only be touching it to clean it and apply cream. If possible, shower rather than bathe while the tattoo is healing. DO NOT SUBMERGE. Avoid petroleum based products (e.g Vaseline) as they can restrict fresh air getting to your tattoo.

For at least 2 weeks you cannot do any of the following:

  • NO swimming.

  • NO sunbeds.

  • NO sunbathing.

  • NO saunas or steam rooms.

  • DO NOT apply suncream to a fresh tattoo.

  • Avoid wearing tight clothing.

  • STAY OUT OF THE SUN!!

The first 2 weeks are imperative. The tattoo should be fully healed after 4 weeks (can take longer depending on the individual). Chlorine and/or sunlight can affect ink pigmentation, which may cause irritation, inflammation, and cause the ink to drop out/fade much quicker.

After about 3-4 days the tattoo will start to flake, this is normal, tattoos can also scab (DO NOT PICK). After 9-14 days flaking and any scabs should be gone, they will be replaced with "silver skin", which will last for about a week (sometimes longer depending on the individual). The tattoo may look dull until the "new skin" has completely healed.

Once healed, ALWAYS use a factor 50 spf when your tattoos are in the sun.

BLACKWORK AFTERCARE:

Always wash and dry your hands before touching a new tattoo to clean and/or cream.

Keep the cling film wrap on for 2-3 hours.

After 2-3 hours remove the cling film, gently wash the tattoo with warm water and an antibacterial liquid soap (hand wash).

Please do not use wax based soaps, these can leave a residue and dry out the skin and result in longer healing time.

After the tattoo has been cleaned, gently pat dry with a clean kitchen paper towel. Leave clean and dry for the first 24 hours, DO NOT rewrap.

When the tattoo starts feeling dry and itchy start applying a pea sized amount of palmers coco butter once or twice a day. DO NOT OVER CREAM.

If you have any problems with the tattoo, are unsure of anything/ need advice or if you think you may need a touch-up, please contact your artist directly, email bookings@lunabluetattoo.com or pop into the studio.

COLOUR AFTERCARE:

Avoid touching the new tattoo unnecessarily so that exposure to germs is reduced. For the same reason, do not pick at or scratch a healing tattoo. Always wash and dry your hands before touching a new tattoo to clean/apply cream.

Leave the dressing applied by your tattooist on for 3-4 hours immediately after getting the tattoo. Carefully remove the dressing, gently wash the tattoo with warm water and an antibacterial liquid soap (hand wash). We do not recommend using wax based soaps, as they can leave a residue and dry out your skin, this could lead to a longer healing time.

After your tattoo has been cleaned, gently pat dry with a clean kitchen paper towel and leave uncovered for 2-3 days to dry out. During these 2-3 days, DO NOT touch it or cream it other than cleaning once a day in the shower. If you are going out, wear loose clothing, nothing tight! If you work on a construction site or a workplace where the tattoo can be exposed to dust or dirt ect please keep it wrapped in cling film to protect it but continue to dry out once home. It is an open wound so anything like this can put you at higher risk of infection.

DO NOT PICK OR SCRATCH THE TATTOO AT ANY POINT DURING HEALING.

After 2-3 days of drying it out, you can now apply a pea sized amount of cream, sparingly every 2 days or so. We recommend Palmer’s Coco Butter unscented (comes in pot) or Hustle Butter. If any irritation occurs, please stop using the cream. Any concerns about whether the tattoo is irritated please email us (stated at the top of page).

You can over cream a tattoo, which can effect healing, you don’t want to dry out the tattoo so much that it feels tight and cracks but you also don’t want to over cream it, as it will go mushy and end up scabbing badly leaving scarring and extensive ink drop out.

SECOND SKIN AFTERCARE:

If applied by an artist please try to leave on for a MAXIMUM of 5-7 days, remove after this time period, clean/wash the area and then dry. Then following removal, continue aftercare by using Palmers coco butter in small amounts (pea sized amount) when the tattoo is feeling dry and/or tight. In order to remove the second skin please do so in the shower or bath, wet first then pull down from the left or right bottom corner.

There is a removal video on our insta @lunabluetattoo. If any redness or warmness occurs remove the second skin immediately and resume general aftercare.

TOUCH UPS:

First touch up is free (within the first 3 months), any after that will be charged and if after 3 months touch up will be charged.

Touch ups are to fill in any ink fallout that may have occurred. Not redoing the entire tattoo. Please leave the tattoo to fully heal for 4 weeks before contacting to arrange a touch-up. Some people can take longer to heal, so if you aren’t sure contact your artist with a picture and they can check.

If a touch up is arranged and you do not give 72 hours notice to reschedule or you no-show, to re-arrange a £50 non-refundable deposit will be required in order to do so.
